Coriolis Meters and Controllers

Coriolis flow meters measure mass flow directly and are independent of changes to fluid properties such as specific gravity, viscosity, and heat capacity. A "U" shaped tube is vibrated at its natural frequency. With flow passing through the tube a phase difference occurs between the upstream and downstream of the tube that is directly proportional to the mass flow rate of the fluid flowing through the tube.

Vortex Flow Meter

Vortex flow meters consist of a pipe with a solid "shedder" bar that is mounted across the diameter of the pipe perpendicular to the flow path. As flow passes the shredder bar, vortices (swirls) are formed alternately on each side of the bar. Piezoelectric crystals measure this frequency and output the volumetric flow rate.

Magnetic Flow Meter

Magnetic flow meters are extremely accurate instruments that are suitable for measuring the flow rate of conductive liquids. Based on Faraday’s law, they consist of a DC coil that generates a magnetic field around a non-conductive liner. The fluid being the conductor generates a voltage proportional to the velocity of the fluid in the tube. Conductive metallic electrodes mounted flush to the wall of the tube sense this voltage.

Mass Flow Controllers

Thermal Mass Flow meters are designed to precisely measure and control the mass flow rate of clean gases. Temperature sensors mounted equidistant upstream and downstream of a precision heater in the flow stream provide the basis of thermal mass flow measurement.  The resulting differential temperature with flow is proportional to the mass flow rate which is largely insensitive to fluid pressure and temperature.  The calibration is based on the heat capacity of the fluid being measured; therefore changes in the gas concentration will affect the meters calibration.

Variable Area

Commonly referred to as "rotameters", these are inexpensive and reliable instruments that provide flow rate indication for liquids, gases, and steam. Consisting of a tapered tube and float, variable area flow meters are mounted vertically in a piping system and do not require power.

Gas Flow Calibrators

Primary Gas Flow Calibration instruments utilize a positive displacement piston prover design. This is an internationally-accepted platform that's been the standard for obtaining primary gas flow measurements for over a century. Patented technology uses a nearly-frictionless graphite composite piston housed within a flow measuring cell of precisely quantified dimensions. The piston is machined to a very close tolerance to the internal diameter of the borosilicate glass tube. The gas being measured forms a viscous seal between the piston and the tube I.D. When the piston reaches the highest timed point along the path of travel, a volumetric flow measurement has been electronically recorded. The instrument operates with simple push-button operation, which enables hands-free measurements, leaves little room for user-error or interpretation, and requires only minimal training.
